How to distinguish PCB single-layer board and multi-layer board

Classification of circuit boards

According to the number of layers, there are three types of single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer circuit boards, which are distinguished according to the circuit layers inside.

The first is a single-sided circuit board. On a general circuit board, the components are on one side of the board, and the circuit is on the other side. Because only one side has a circuit, we call this circuit board a single-sided circuit. The production of single-panel is generally very simple and low-cost, but it can only be used for simple electronic products, and more complex electrical appliances cannot use single-panel.

Then there is the double-sided board. The reason why it is called a double-sided board is of course because it has two-sided circuits. When a product has only one side of the circuit and cannot meet the normal use, it needs such a double-sided or multi-sided circuit board to meet it. The double-sided circuit is to connect the two-sided circuits through copper holes, so that different circuits can be divided into different network connections to meet the needs of the product.

The last is the multi-layer circuit board. The multi-layer circuit board refers to the circuit with more than three layers in the board. The conductive pattern layers are separated by insulating materials between each two sides, and then formed by pressing. Multilayer boards are widely used in complex electronic products, providing products with the advantages of high capacity, high speed, and multi-function.

According to the properties of circuit board materials

Can be divided into soft board, hard board. There are also flexible and rigid boards. The soft board is a tough material, just like a plastic shell. Rigid boards are hard materials that are difficult to break or fold. The soft-rigid board is a softer and harder material, which is a combination of a soft board and a hard board.

It is also possible to expose the board to strong light, the multi-layer board will not have light passing through, while the single and double-sided light will pass through the board. Then single-sided, because there is only one side of the line. All vias are copper-free. On the contrary, for double-sided and multi-layer boards, vias can be made of copper.

The most essential distinction is the number of layers of the line.

The distinction of circuit board hole properties

The single-sided board has only one line, and the holes inside are all non-metallized holes. No electroplating is required during the production of the board.

For double-sided and multi-layer boards, the holes inside are divided into metallized holes and non-metallized holes, and electroplating is required in the production of the board.

Application of circuit board

What kind of things will use circuit boards? General household and common electronic products, electrical appliances, such as mobile phones, TVs, computers, induction cookers, rice cookers, range hoods for kitchens, some chargers, remote controls, and high-end products. Sophisticated aircraft, missiles, automotive equipment, medical equipment, military equipment, and more. Circuit boards are normally used in products to adjust speed, control time, display and other functions. Not all electrical appliances need to use circuit boards, such as ordinary kettles, which only use electric heating to boil water, and all do not need to use circuit boards.

Normally, when we use circuit boards, how do we choose to use simple single and double-sided boards or multi-layer boards, which must take into account the functions and requirements of the product. The higher the product requirements, the more the cost of the circuit board. The design of the circuit board will involve many required functions such as signal anti-interference, circuit layout, and EMC. Hangzhou Jiepei focuses on the production of 1-6 layers.

With the development of science and technology, the requirements of electronic products are getting higher and higher. Because the application range of single and double panels is small, it is only used for simple products and cannot meet the needs of the times, so multi-layer circuit boards will be considered to meet the functionality of the products. Multilayer boards are used in a wide range of electronic products today because of their strong economic performance and stable circuit performance. Briefly describe the method and application of the number of circuit board layers, some of which may not be complete and specific, but I still hope to let everyone understand and help.
